So here we are walking, yes walking from the Century City Mall — where we believe we saw Tyne Daly — but I digress — to the hotel I’m attending yet another MCLE seminar.

A small person walks in front of us at the crosswalk from another direction. Adam then gives me the most bizarre look. I look at him, the people around me, then in front of me is none other than Gary Coleman.

Yes, Arnold Drummond, gubernatorial candidate, and recent Surreal Life restaurant manager.

I guess most of the celebrities we see are ‘working actors,’ or folks on their way up. This was a little weird. Here was Gary Coleman, at about thirty five years old — and he looked pretty sad or to put it better — surly. If this is the other side of fame — then I could see less of it. It was a reminder of how fleeting success in L.A. can be.

The weirdest part was that he was, and I know people say this about most television and film actors, much smaller than I thought. I’ve seen him described as nearly five feet tall — my ass. I’m barely over five feet tall and I’d guess he was more like four feet even.

So, move over Quentin Tarantino — you’ve been one upped by a better sighting.
