About two years ago, Adam and I participated in the Dahlia Days art festival sponsored by the Eagle Rock Community Cultural Center.
Adam displayed charcoal drawings he had done . . . . I displayed some of my black and white photography. The woman to my left displayed her original artwork.
So people stopped by, looked at our art, wished us well, bought a few things. There was a man next to Adam, however, whose booth pulled in hundreds of people.
What was this man selling? Revolutionary art, beautiful paintins, no, the man was selling rocks.
That’s right, rocks. Quartz, geodes, and polished river rock. Earth’s natural bounty can yeild millions of small rocks — and a huge cash business.
I couldn’t believe the number of people who were willing to step over and knock down Adam’s artwork only to get to the rocks. He had no fancy displays, just buckets and buckets of rocks. And he couldn’t keep them away.
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.
