In my infinite spare time these days I’ve taken on the project of ‘ripping’ my CDs to my hard drive. This is no monumental project as my frugal personality prohibits spending $$$ on CDs. Rather, it’s a modest project of ripping my second-hand pop 80s CDs and Adam’s practically new 80s and 90s alternative rock CDs to disk. (Don Henley vs. Blur).
After taking a walk down nostalgia lane — the question remains — what to do with these plastic disc monuments to consumerism? (FOR ALL YOU SUE HAPPY RECORD EXECS — of course I understand I have license to make only one copy of these songs for my personal enjoyment and will surely keep ownership all of these discs as I’m required by law — in order to use the digital copies on my hard drive for my personal enjoyment only).
For the rest of you. After you do this — do you sell them, give them away? I looked on EBay and even new versions of these CDs go for no more than 99 cents (plus shipping). Does that mean in the P2P world these hunks of plastic are useless?
As I’ve been walking through my new neighborhood watching the mansionization of small plots of land and tiny bungalows, I peer at nothing but garages full of stuff, and my urge to clear out even the tiniest clutter becomes stronger — CDs only being the latest victim.
Dumping these (surely someone must want them) will by the mystery of the week. I’ll get back to you if solved. Now on to the Rolling Stones live in concert in Japan — and no, that one’s not mine.

I’ve stopped buying CDs. They take up too much space and I have too many of them. And ripping CDs to my mp3 player takes up too much of my time. I give them away or sell them. I don’t listen to 90% of my collection so most of them are selling on amazon.com.
I don’t need cover art - I’m not a sucker for it. I download songs instead. No cases, no inserts, no clutter and no dusting that clutter.
